NEW LOCATION OF MY HAMMER MILL COLLECTION
I am in constant search for a hammer in antique shops, markets, street vendors, all over the world and especially on the internet. I now plan my travels according to the time and place of museums, antique shops, and second-hand markets in special neighborhoods.
In 2016, we decided to move my collection to Şile while almost all of my collection was packaged and stored in Sweden. After a difficult process, I first exhibited my collection in my office. However, after a certain period of time, my hammers did not fit on the walls and shelves of my office. That's why I was excited to build a new place and move it to a larger and more detailed place. Seeing most of my hammers on the walls and shelves excites me and makes me happy.
The Hammer House was built to share this excitement and journey into history with you...
HELLO
I am Burhan REŞİD, a hammer collector...
I was born in Baghdad in 1958, the eldest of 4 sons of a mother from Şile, Istanbul and a Turkmen father from Iraq. We moved to Şile, where we came for 2-3 months every summer, for good when I was 11 years old.
I completed my secondary and high school education in Şile. When I turned 24, I moved to Sweden.
While in Şile, I spent my free time helping my grandfather Derviş Cemal, a master blacksmith, in his shop. I think this is where my familiarity and passion for iron and especially the hammer comes from.
During one of my travels, I was surprised to see about 20-25 hammers in different heads and forms behind a silver jeweler and I started to ask myself if there were so many hammers. I guess that's when I started to feel like a collector and started to buy hammers.
Since 1995, I have been making serious purchases to my collection. I have a collection of over 4000 pieces.
